Born in the North of France, Christiane RANCELOT spent her childhood and practiced drawing surrounded by the sculptures of her paternal grandfather.
As an adult, it was at the Beaux Arts and through contact with the associative and artistic circles of Lille that she enriched her knowledge in the artistic field.
First there were many years of practicing drawing from a live model, then the transition to abstraction, an obligatory and fashionable passage in the 80s. Finally she returned to figuration with work on humans.
After having held her studio gallery in Old Lille from 1998 to 2009, she has now set up her new studio near Bordeaux.

" I paint by trying to be true, in relation to what is important to me, what attracts me and what seems to me to be aesthetic. I have a particular interest in humans, in movement. My scenes are singular at the same time as they have something of déjà vu.
In my series "Swimming" the photographic snapshot, which allows to illustrate the ephemeral, is often my starting point. My interpretations of water are as many compositions seen through the filter of crazy and changing reflections, transparencies that destroy the image and make it abstract. These fleeting water-light interactions force my eye and my mind to a permanent questioning of abstraction and figuration.
I paint what resonates with me emotionally, awakens childhood memories and puts me in relation, in connection with others, with those who look at my work.
My latest series "Dream of Nature" raises the question of dream or reality. It integrates my little swimmers into real or illusory landscapes that immerse the viewer in an often dreamed image. As in the series "Flowers dreams" my painting inspires a feeling of well-being and plenitude.

“I paint trying to preserve the authentic character of what matters most to me, what attracts me and corresponds to my aesthetic sense. I have a particular interest in people and in movement. Although my representations are unique, they may often give an impression of “déjà vu”.
